Differential diagnosis of pulmonary infections in immunocompromised patients using high-resolution computed tomography
European Radiology May 10, 2019
Kunihiro Y, et al. - In this study, the researchers evaluated the findings of pulmonary infections in immunocompromised patients by high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) and its usefulness in the differential diagnosis of these infections. The study involved 345 immunocompromised patients with pulmonary infections. The investigation for the association of the CT criteria and infections were conducted with the help of the χ2 test. To identify significant indicators for each infection multiple logistic regression analyses were carried out. The main indicator of bacterial pneumonia was the bronchial wall thickening. Whereas, for pneumocystis pneumonia, the presence of a mosaic pattern and the absence of nodules were the significant signs. Findings suggested that for the differential diagnosis of some pulmonary infections in immunocompromised patients HRCT findings are likely to be more useful.
