Differential associations between body mass index with diabetes and vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy in an adult Chinese population
British Journal of Ophthalmology Jan 29, 2021
Han X, Jiang Y, Niu Y, et al. - In this longitudinal study, researchers intended to determine if there is a connection between body mass index (BMI) with diabetes mellitus (DM) and vision-threatening diabetic retinopathy (VTDR). The sample consisted of DM-free candidates aged ≥ 40 years from the Lingtou Eye Cohort Study at baseline (2008–2010). In total, 2,934 candidates were involved with a mean (SD) age of 59.5 (7.3) years (58.3% men). In this adult Chinese population, higher baseline BMI increased the risk of incident DM but was not correlated with the risk of VTDR.
