Gordin D, et al. - Researchers intended to investigate the associations of chronic kidney disease (CKD) and proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR) with cardiovascular disease (CVD), in patients with long duration of type 1 diabetes. They found an association between the absence of PDR in people with type 1 diabetes and CKD with a decreased prevalence of CVD. Thus, the data suggested the possible existence of common protective factors for PDR and CVD.
