Different patterns of conditional survival of breast cancer patients by age and histologic types: Evidence from the Korean nationwide registry
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention May 02, 2019
Jung SY, et al. - Using the Korea Central Cancer Registry, researchers examined 145,083 Korean breast cancer patients for the estimation of their 5-year conditional relative survival (CRS). An increased CRS of breast cancer survivors was reported in Korea but variations by sex, age, stage, and histologic type were also evident. Worse 5-year CRS following 5 years of survival was seen in very young and very old patients as compared to those of other age groups. From diagnosis to 5 years after diagnosis, 5-year CRS of metaplastic carcinoma increased from 82.0% to 95.2%, respectively, relative to that reported for lobular carcinoma (from 93.1% to 92.5%). Within 7 years post-diagnosis, hardly any excess mortality (5-year CRS ≥ 95%) was evident.
