Different medications for the treatment of Ménière's disease by intratympanic injection: A systematic review and network meta-analysis
Clinical Otolaryngology May 01, 2019
Cao Z, et al. - Using a network meta-analysis, researchers evaluated the safety and efficacy of the different medications used in the treatment of Ménière's disease by intratympanic injection. Via searching PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL and CENTRAL, they involved only randomized controlled trials that compared the efficacy of medications used for intratympanic injection to treat Ménière's disease with each other or a placebo. The present analysis included 9 studies involving 314 patients treated with 5 different drugs. In the treatment of Ménière's disease by intratympanic injection, all medications are more effective than a placebo. According to the SUCRA, Gentamicin ranked the most efficient, with long-term equally effective gentamicin and methylprednisolone. Taking into account the potential risk of hearing loss caused by gentamicin, methylprednisolone may be the best choice for intratympanic injection treatment of Ménière's disease.
