Differences in responsiveness of intratympanic steroid injection for intractable vertigo in Meniere's disease
American Journal of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Medicine and Surgery Jun 24, 2021
Okuda H, Aoki M, Ogawa B, et al. - In this retrospective study involving 32 patients with Meniere's disease who had been unable to control frequent vertigo attacks despite conservative treatment for at least 3 months, researchers sought to examine the clinical characteristics of patients who responded to intratympanic steroid (ITS) injection treatment. Study participants received an intratympanic injection of dexamethasone (3.3 mg/mL) in the affected side at least three times. The ITS injection significantly improved subjective symptoms in intractable Meniere's disease, but the long-term effects were inconsistent. The findings suggest that reduced amplitude in cervical vestibular evoked myogenic potential is related to the efficacy of ITS injection treatment.
