Differences in post-operative outcome between conversion and primary total hip arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty Dec 05, 2017
Qin C, et al. - The prime focus of this investigation was to elucidate the differences in post-operative outcome between conversion and primary total hip arthroplasty (THA), to better inform value-based reimbursement schemes in the era of bundled payments. Findings demonstrated that the conversion THA group had elevated risk for Center Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)-reported complications, increased length of hospital stay and non-home bound discharge. This revelation pointed towards its dissimilarity to elective primary THA and, indicated that it likely warrants consideration for modified treatment within the CCJR structure in a manner similar to THA for fracture.
