Differences in mortality of new-onset (de-novo) acute heart failure vs acute decompensated chronic heart failure

The American Journal of Cardiology Jun 21, 2019

Younis A, et al. - Using data from 2,328 patients with acute heart failure (AHF) enrolled in the HF survey in Israel, researchers compared those with new-onset (de-novo) AHF to those with acutely decompensated chronic HF (ADCHF) with regard to outcomes among hospitalized patients. Both groups had similar mortality rates at 30 days. Patients with ADCHF had significantly higher all-cause death rates at 1 and 10 years. An independently 58% and 48% higher mortality risk was observed in patients with ADCHF at 1 and 10 years, respectively, as revealed consistently in multivariable analysis. One-year and 10-year mortality following hospitalization for AHF was independently predicted by previous history of HF.
