Differences in management of coronary artery disease in patients with Medicare Advantage vs traditional fee-for-service Medicare among cardiology practices
JAMA Cardiology Mar 27, 2019
Figueroa JF, et al. - Researchers used the Practice Innovation and Clinical Excellence (PINNACLE) registry to compare patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) enrolled in Medicare Advantage (MA) vs traditional fee-for-service (FFS) Medicare, in terms of evidence-based secondary prevention treatments and intermediate outcomes (including blood pressure and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) in this observational, retrospective, cohort study. They analyzed data from 35,563 patients enrolled in MA and 172,732 enrolled in FFS Medicare. Findings revealed more comorbidities and more chances of receiving secondary prevention treatments among MA beneficiaries vs FFS Medicare beneficiaries. However, intermediate outcomes between the two groups did not differ.
