Differences in growth rate on CT of adrenal adenomas and malignant adrenal nodules
American Journal of Roentgenology Sep 02, 2019
Corwin MT, Navarro SM, Malik DG, et al. - Through a retrospective review of adults with an adrenal nodule observed at two distinct abdominals or chest CT examinations or PET/CT examinations, experts ascertained the variations in the growth rate of adrenal adenomas and malignant adrenal nodules. A total of 105 adenomas and 26 malignant nodules were there. Out of the 105 adenomas, 34 grew, three became smaller, and 68 were consistent in size. All 26 malignant nodules grew. A growth rate of 3 mm/year differentiated adenomas from malignant nodules with a sensitivity and a specificity of 100%, for both. Thus, nearly one-third of radiologically proven adrenal adenomas grew with a rate of less than 3 mm/year. All malignant adrenal nodules grew with all at a rate higher than 5 mm/year.
