Differences in coronary plaque morphology between East Asian and Western White patients: An optical coherence tomography study
Coronary Artery Disease Oct 10, 2018
Bryniarski KL, et al. - Researchers investigated the association between race and plaque characteristics in patients with coronary artery disease by examining the detailed culprit plaque characteristics between East Asian and Western white patients using optical coherence tomography. Participants included 101 East Asian individuals matched to 101 Western white individuals, based on parameters including age, sex, clinical presentation, hyperlipidemia, diabetes mellitus, and lesion location. In white vs East Asian patients, they observed longer lesion length, greater lipid length, higher lipid index, and larger mean reference area. Even after controlling for confounders, significant differences in plaque morphology were evident between these two patient populations.
