Differences in bone mineral density and bone turnover markers between individuals with and without diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis

Spine Dec 03, 2020

Uehara M, Takahashi J, Ikegami S, et al. - A Japanese resident cohort study based on a municipal registry was designed to employ random sampling from the basic resident registry of a rural town for individual selection to evaluate the variations in bone mineral density (BMD) and bone turnover markers between subjects with and without diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis (DISH). Researchers constructed eight groups based on age (50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s) and gender after random sampling from the resident registry of Obuse town. This research verified the variations in BMD and bone turnover markers between individuals with and without DISH on a general population basis. In this multivariate analysis, results revealed elevated lumbar and hip BMD to be significantly correlated with DISH, with no remarkable findings for bone turnover markers.
