Differences between men and women with nonradiographic axial spondyloarthritis: Clinical characteristics and treatment effectiveness in a real-life prospective cohort
Arthritis Research & Therapy Oct 14, 2020
Neuenschwander R, Hebeisen M, Micheroli R, et al. - In this study, demographics, clinical parameters, and responses were compared to tumor necrosis factor inhibitors in women vs men with non-radiographic disease state (nr-axSpA). Researchers correlated disease characteristics of 264 women and 231 men with nr-axSpA at inclusion in the prospective Swiss Clinical Quality Management Cohort. They evaluated response to a first TNFi in 85 women and 78 men without diagnosed co-morbid fibromyalgia. It was noted that response rates to TNFi are significantly lower in women than in men, despite only a few sex differences in patient characteristics in nr-axSpA.
