Dietary macronutrient intake and molecular-bacterial vaginosis: Role of fiber
Clinical Nutrition Feb 04, 2020
Shivakoti R, Tuddenham S, Caulfield LE, et al. - Researchers used logistic regression to determine if there is a connection between dietary macronutrient intake and low-Lactobacillus [termed molecular-bacterial vaginosis (BV)]. The sample consisted of 104 reproductive-age women [median age was 25.9 (interquartile range: 21.9-29.6)]. Using the Block Brief 2000 food frequency questionnaire, dietary intake data were obtained. According to this cross-sectional study, diets richer in fiber were linked to lower odds of molecular-BV. To validate these findings and check whether increased fiber intake can modulate the microbiota toward a more optimal Lactobacillus-dominant profile, further studies will be required.
