Dietary intakes of eggs and cholesterol in relation to all‐cause and heart disease mortality: A prospective cohort study
Journal of the American Heart Association May 19, 2020
Xia PF, Pan XF, Chen C, et al. - Researchers utilized data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 1999–2014, to determine links between dietary consumption of eggs and cholesterol and all‐cause and heart disease mortality in a US population. Through 24‐hour dietary recalls at baseline, experts evaluated dietary information. Mortality status was reported until December 31, 2015. A median follow‐up of 7.8 years was performed, during which 4,991 deaths were reported, including 870 deaths due to heart disease. Findings revealed no significant link between egg intake and mortality in US adults. Experts noted that the link between dietary cholesterol consumption and all‐cause mortality relied on the baseline consumption levels; those exhibiting lower intake levels (< 250 mg/day) showed an inverse link and those with higher intake levels (≥ 250 mg/day) displayed a positive link.
