Dietary inflammatory index is associated with risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality but not with cancer mortality in middle-aged and older Japanese adults
The Journal of Nutrition May 22, 2019
Okada E, et al. – In over 58,000 Japanese participants (aged 40–79 years) from the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study, researchers assessed the risk of all-cause, total cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, coronary heart disease, total cancer, digestive cancer, and noncancer/non-CVD mortality in relation to Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) score. Using a food-frequency questionnaire, they calculated DII scores for participants, who were followed-up for a median of 19.3 years. An increased risk of all-cause and CVD mortality was observed in relation to higher DII scores in this population of Japanese adults.
