Dietary inflammatory index is associated with risk of all-cause and cardiovascular disease mortality but not with cancer mortality in middle-aged and older Japanese adults
The Journal of Nutrition May 24, 2019
Okada E, et al. - Researchers assessed risk of all-cause, total cardiovascular disease (CVD), stroke, coronary heart disease (CHD), total cancer, digestive cancer, and noncancer/non-CVD mortality in relation to Dietary Inflammatory Index (DII) score in a cohort of over 58,000 Japanese participants (aged 40–79 years) from the Japan Collaborative Cohort Study. The participants were followed-up for a median of 19.3 years. For total CVD, stroke, and CHD, 1.30, 1.29, and 1.30, respectively, were the highest multivariable HRs estimated for CVD mortality. The investigators found no significant links between DII and risk of total cancer, digestive cancer, and noncancer/non-CVD mortality. In this study, an increased risk of all-cause and CVD mortality was observed in relation to a higher DII among Japanese adults.
