Dietary inflammatory index and incidence of breast cancer in the SUN project
Clinical Nutrition Oct 25, 2018
Gardeazabal I, et al. - In this study, researchers longitudinally evaluated the relationship between the dietary inflammatory index (DII®)—a frequently used method to evaluate the inflammatory potential of the diet—and incident breast cancer (BC) by analyzing data of 10,713 middle-aged, Spanish female university graduates from the SUN cohort. As per data, 100 confirmed and 168 probable incident BC cases were identified after 10.3 years of median follow-up. Results suggested that the apparent increase in risk between DII® scores and BC was not statistically significant, which could be partly explained by the small number of observed cases. In regard to menopausal status, the researchers did not find any statistically significant differences.
