Dietary glycemic load and its association with glucose metabolism and lipid profile in young adults
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Oct 21, 2021
Fernandes AC, Marinho AR, Lopes C, et al. - Intake of a high glycemic load (GL) diet could negatively impact lipid profile in healthy young individuals.
This investigation involved 1,538 participants (51% women), assessed at 21 years of age as part of the EPITeen cohort.
A 86-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire was applied to determine GL.
Post-adjustment, GL had no link with the glucose metabolism parameters.
For blood lipids, a positive association with LDL-C (low-density lipoprotein cholesterol) and a negative association with HDL-C (high-density lipoprotein cholesterol) was evident.
