Dietary glycemic index and glycemic load in relation to general obesity and central adiposity among adults
Clinical Nutrition Jan 10, 2019
Salari-Moghaddam A, et al. – In this study involving adults in Isfahan, Iran, researchers investigated the relationship between dietary glycemic index (GI) and glycemic load (GL) with general and abdominal obesity (defined as waist circumference ≥ 80 cm for women and ≥ 94 cm for men). Using a validated dish-based 106-item semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire, dietary GI and GL were assessed. In this cross-sectional study, no significant association was found between dietary GI and GL and general obesity. A significant positive association was found between dietary GI and abdominal obesity. When the investigators conducted sex-based analyzes, they also observed this relationship in women but not in men. There was no significant association between dietary GI and general obesity in either sex.
