Dietary food patterns and glucose/insulin homeostasis: A cross-sectional study involving 24,182 adult Americans

Lipids in Health and Disease Oct 10, 2017

Mazidi M, et al. - The relationship between major dietary patterns with glucose and insulin homeostasis parameters in a large American sample is examined in this study. These findings demonstrate that the dietary patterns (DP) heavily loaded with carbohydrate (CHO), saturated fat (SFA), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), protein, total fat and mono-unsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and also high-cholesterol-load foods are related to impaired glucose tolerance; in contrast, the healthy pattern which is high in vitamins, minerals and fiber may have favourable effects on insulin sensitivity and glucose tolerance.
