Dietary fatty acid intake after myocardial infarction: A theoretical substitution analysis of the Alpha Omega Cohort
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition Sep 19, 2017
Mölenberg FJM, et al. - This prospective study (Alpha Omega Cohort) including Dutch patients with cardiac disease assessed the risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and ischemic heart disease (IHD) mortality subsequent to theoretical replacement of the sum of saturated fatty acids (SFAs) and trans fatty acids (TFAs) with total unsaturated fatty acids (UFAs), polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs), or cis monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs). It was observed that in medicated cardiac disease patients, shifting the dietary fatty acid (FA) composition toward a higher proportion of UFAs may lower CVD mortality risk.
