Dietary disinhibition mediates the relationship between poor sleep quality and body weight

Blumfield ML, et al. - Here, the physicians examined whether eating behavior (ie dietary restraint, disinhibition, and hunger) mediates the relationship between sleep and body mass index (BMI) in a large sample of American adults. In both males and females, disinhibited eating behavior mediated the relationship between sleep quality and weight status. This mediation was because of aspects of sleep quality other than duration. These outcomes proposed that improving sleep quality could benefit weight loss by helping to reduce an individuals susceptibility to overeating.
