Dietary cadmium and risk of breast cancer subtypes defined by hormone receptor status: A prospective cohort study
International Journal of Cancer Dec 11, 2018
Grioni S, et al. - In a total of 8,924 women recruited to a prospective study between 1987 and 1992, researchers analyzed the link between dietary cadmium and risk of breast cancer defined by estrogen receptor (ER), progesterone receptor (PR) and HER2 status. They used a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire at baseline to determine the intake of dietary cadmium. According to findings, a greater risk of breast cancer was observed in women with highest quintile of cadmium intake vs those with lowest quintile of intake. Overall, this study lends support to the presumption that dietary cadmium is a risk factor for breast cancer.
