Dietary advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and mortality after breast cancer in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI)
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention Oct 02, 2021
Omofuma OO, Peterson LL, Turner DP, et al. - Higher intake of advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) was linked to a higher risk of main cause mortality in postmenopausal women with breast cancer (BC).
Between 1993 and 1998, postmenopausal women aged 50 to 79 years were recruited in the Women's Health Initiative and followed until death or censorship in March 2018.
The sample consisted of 2,023 women diagnosed with first primary invasive BC during follow-up who finished a food frequency questionnaire after diagnosis.
Six hundred thirty fatalities from all causes were documented after a median of 15.1 years of follow-up [193 were BC-related and 129 were cardiovascular disease (CVD)-related].
Post-diagnosis NƐ-carboxymethyl-lysine-AGE consumption was linked to all-cause, BC and CVD mortality.
