Dietary acrylamide intake and risk of renal cell carcinoma in two large prospective cohorts

Graff RE, et al. - Given an increased risk of kidney cancer has been reported in association with higher dietary acrylamide intake in a meta-analysis of five epidemiological studies, researchers explored this link in the prospective Health Professionals Follow-up Study (1986-2014) and Nurses' Health Study (1980-2014) cohorts. They used Cox proportional hazards models adjusting for potential confounders, to evaluate the links during more than two decades of follow-up. Findings demonstrated no association between dietary acrylamide intake and risk of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in two long-term, prospective cohorts with repeated measures of dietary intake. Overall, dietary acrylamide is not an important cancer risk factor in humans.
