Diastolic and systolic left ventricular dysfunction and mortality in chronic kidney disease patients on haemodialysis
Nephrology Aug 28, 2021
De Lima JJG, Macedo TA, Gowdak LHW, et al. - Findings demonstrate an independent link of both moderate–severe left ventricular diastolic dysfunction (LVDD) and LV systolic dysfunction (LVSD) with a higher likelihood of death and both exerted a similar influence on survival. A progressive link was noted between LVDD grades and mortality.
A retrospective study with 1,285 haemodialysis patients followed up until death or transplantation.
LVDD was split into 4 grades of severity.
A follow-up of 30 months revealed deaths of 419/1285 (33%) patients; 224 (53%) died because of CV events.
Occurrence of LVDD in 75% of patients was noted.
Prevalent diastolic abnormality was grade 1 DD.
The predominant form of moderate–severe DD was a pseudonormal pattern.
