Diagnostic value of C-reactive protein levels in postoperative infectious complications after bariatric surgery: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Obesity Surgery Mar 27, 2019
Lee Y, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, the diagnostic value of postoperative serum C-reactive protein (CRP) (area under the curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV)) to detect postoperative infectious complications after bariatric surgery was estimated. The inclusion criteria were met by 6 studies including 2770 patients. Outcomes suggest that patients who are at low risk of infectious complication following bariatric surgery could be identified with high NPV and moderately high sensitivity on postoperative days (PODs) 1, 3, and 5. They observed high specificity on PODs 1 and 3, supporting its possible utility for early diagnosis of postoperative infectious complications.
