Diagnostic utility of histological analysis for detecting ongoing infection during two stage revision arthroplasty in patients with inflammatory arthritis
Journal of Arthroplasty Jan 10, 2018
George J, et al. - This study involved evaluation of the diagnostic accuracy of permanent sections (PS) and frozen sections (FS) for detecting persistent infection during reimplantation in patients with inflammatory arthritis. Findings demonstrated that at the time of reimplantation surgery, histological analysis was recommended even in patients with inflammatory arthritis. Notably, a better diagnostic utility of PS vs FS was reported, that indicated that areas of acute inflammation may be scattered and may not always be captured in the specimens taken for FS.
