Diagnostic significance of downregulated circMORC3 as a molecular biomarker of hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma: A pilot study
Cancer Management and Research Jan 11, 2020
Guo Y, Huang Q, Zheng J, et al. - Researchers examined the expression of circMORC3 in hypopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (HSCC) in order to determine if it could be used as a diagnostic marker of HSCC. Via quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, they analyzed HSCC tissues and adjacent normal tissues for circMORC3 expression levels. They also determined the links between circMORC3 expression levels and clinicopathologic factors. In HSCC tissues vs paired adjacent normal tissues, a significantly lower expression levels of circMORC3 was revealed, with area under the ROC curve being 0.834. There was a correlation of decreased expression of circMORC3 with T stages and tumor sizes. Overall, findings revealed downregulated circMORC3 in HSCC tissues and plasma as well as its possible utility as an early diagnostic HSCC biomarker.
