Diagnostic performance of margin features in thyroid nodules in prediction of malignancy
American Journal of Roentgenology Feb 22, 2018
Siebert SM, et al. - For the differentiation of papillary carcinoma from benign thyroid nodules, authors aimed to contemplate the thyroid nodule margins for specific morphologic features and to investigate the diagnostic performance of these features via high-resolution ultrasound (12–18 MHz) and ultrasound-guided biopsy. The statistically prominent predictors of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid included jagged edges and lobulated borders of thyroid nodule margins. Data illustrated an association between jagged edges with infiltrative-type expansion and these edges could prove to be helpful as predictors of more aggressive papillary carcinomas.
