Diagnostic performance of imaging for the detection of peritoneal metastases: A meta-analysis
European Radiology Feb 20, 2020
van ’t Sant I, Engbersen MP, Bhairosing PA, et al. - The intent of this meta-analysis was to ascertain the diagnostic performance of CT, PET(CT), and (DW)MRI in distinguishing peritoneal metastases (PM). Researchers performed a literature search of Pubmed, Embase (Ovid), and Scopus between January 1997 and May 2018 to distinguish studies reporting on the accuracy of imaging PM in the diagnostic workup of gastrointestinal or ovarian cancers. A total of 3,457 individuals were included in this study. In ovarian and gastrointestinal cancer individuals, it was found that (DW)MRI and PET(CT) revealed comparable diagnostic performance for the detection of peritoneal metastases. This potentially is the imaging method of choice in most centers in the future since MRI is more widely available than PET(CT) in clinical practice.
