Diagnostic performance of computed tomography for bowel endometriosis: A systematic review and meta-analysis
European Journal of Radiology Aug 14, 2019
Woo S, et al. - Twelve studies with 1,091 individuals were involved by the researchers in order to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis regarding the performance of CT for diagnosis of bowel endometriosis. Pooled sensitivity and specificity were 0.92 and 0.95, respectively. Substantial heterogeneity was present, ie, I2 = 92.38% and 89.09%, respectively, for sensitivity and specificity. Publication bias was proposed by the deeks’ asymmetry test. The history of prior surgery for endometriosis was the only important factor influencing heterogeneity at meta-regression analysis. Particularly, studies that involved individuals with such history vs studies that did not have such history, exhibited significantly greater specificity. Hence, in the diagnosis of bowel endometriosis, the excellent performance was demonstrated by CT. Because of the small number of involved studies and publication bias, further studies may be required to verify these results.
