Diagnostic efficacy of contrast-enhanced MRI in detecting residual or recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma after transarterial chemoembolization: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Nov 08, 2019
Liu HF, Zou LQ, Lu XR, et al. - In this systematic review and meta-analysis, experts examined the diagnostic efficiency of contrast-enhanced MRI (CEMRI) in identifying residual or recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) following transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) through meta-analysis. In diagnosing residual or recurrent HCCs following TACE, The pooled sensitivity, specificity, positive probability ratio, negative probability ratio, diagnostic odds ratio, and area under the summary receiver operating characteristic curve of CEMRI were 91%, 93%, 12.22, 0.09, 126.99 and 0.97, respectively. Subgroup analysis exhibited that CEMRI performed significantly superior in prospective studies compared with retrospective studies. Therefore, this meta-analysis implied that in identifying residual or recurrent HCCs following TACE, CEMRI had high diagnostic efficiency and it could act as an alternative approach for additional assessment following TACE.
