Diagnostic criteria for gastro-esophageal reflux following sleeve gastrectomy
Obesity Surgery Jan 29, 2021
Lim G, Johari y, Ooi G, et al. - In view of the controversies and diagnostic dilemma concerning gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD) post-sleeve gastrectomy (SG), researchers sought to ascertain the discriminant factors of symptomatic reflux and determine diagnostic thresholds for GERD post-SG. They grouped patients post-SG into asymptomatic cohort (n = 48) and symptomatic cohort (n = 76) and made them complete validated symptom questionnaires. Reflux score and supine acid exposure were identified as discriminant factors for symptomatic reflux in univariate and multivariate regressions. Based on findings, they recommend considering a reflux score of 11.5 or more or supine acid exposure of 2.65% or more as diagnostic in defining symptomatic reflux following SG.
