Diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound performed by novice vs advanced sonographers for pneumonia in children: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Academic Emergency Medicine Jul 23, 2019
Tsou PY, et al. - Via performing a systematic review and meta-analysis, the diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound (LUS) for pneumonia was determined and the performance between novice and advanced sonographers was compared. Inclusion of 25 studies (n = 3,353) in the meta-analysis was done. Outcomes support the accuracy of LUS in diagnosing pneumonia in children. However, operator-dependent variability was noted in this test. Researchers noted higher diagnostic accuracy with more experienced sonographers. This emphasizes the necessity for further work on evidence-based educational methods to guide novice sonographers in LUS.
