Diagnostic accuracy of lung ultrasound performed by novice vs advanced sonographers for pneumonia in children: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Academic Emergency Medicine Jun 25, 2019
Tsou PY, et al. - In this investigation, researchers summarized lung ultrasound (LUS)' diagnostic precision for pneumonia and compared the performance among novice (training ≤ 7 days) and advanced sonographers with a systematic review and meta-analysis. The meta-analysis included 25 studies (n=3,353). Meta-regression showed a significant difference between novice and advanced sonographers in the diagnostic accuracy of LUS pneumonia. Findings suggested that LUS can diagnose pneumonia in children accurately. This test, however, shows operator-dependent variability, with higher diagnostic accuracy for more experienced sonographers.
