Diagnostic accuracy of endocervicoscopy in identifying and grading cervical intraepithelial neoplasia lesion
Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation Mar 28, 2020
De Rosa N, et al. - Researchers compared the accuracy of endocervicoscopy vs other procedures employed into the diagnostic workup of cervical pathology in identification and grading cervical intraepithelial lesion. They performed assessment of a total of 634 women who underwent colposcopy, endocervicoscopy and cytological or histological sampling in a retrospective study. At endocervicoscopy, the extension of the lesion resulted significantly more than at colposcopy. Colposcopy and endocervicoscopy findings showed a statistically significant association. Overall, they observed statistically significant correlation of minor or major findings between colposcopy and endocervicoscopy. Findings suggest endocervicoscopy to be a good approach to recognize and grade CIN lesions in a subset of patients where colposcopy was not satisfactory. It was identified as valuable for overcoming one of the limits of colposcopy in the evaluation of the squamo-columnar junction and for establishing the real extension of the lesion into cervical cancer.
