Diagnostic accuracy of attenuation difference and iodine concentration thresholds at rapid-kilovoltage-switching dual-energy CT for detection of enhancement in renal masses
American Journal of Roentgenology Sep 03, 2019
Sadoughi N, Krishna S, Macdonald DB, et al. - Thirty consecutive histologically approved solid renal masses (comprising nine papillary renal cell carcinomas) and 27 benign cysts (17 simple and 10 hemorrhagic or proteinaceous cysts) were assessed with dual-energy CT (DECT) by the researchers in order to judge iodine concentration and attenuation modification in Hounsfield unit (ΔHU) thresholds to diagnose improvement in renal masses at rapid-kilovoltage-switching DECT. Using an iodine concentration of ≥ 1.2 mg/mL or a 70-keV ΔHU ≥ 15 HU, DECT practiced in the corticomedullary phase did the best and for the discovery of improvement in renal masses without instances of cyst pseudoenhancement, these parameters enhanced sensitivity.
