Diagnosis of prosthetic joint infection with alpha-defensin using a lateral flow device: A multicentre study
The Bone & Joint Journal Sep 14, 2017
Berger P, et al. - In this current study, researchers used the Synovasure lateral flow device to analyze the presence of alpha-defensin proteins in synovial fluid and compared it with the prosthetic joint infection (PJI) criteria produced by the Musculoskeletal Infection Society (MSIS), in terms of diagnostic reliability and accuracy. The Synovasure test displayed excellent diagnostic performance to corroborate or refute the diagnosis of a PJI. Notably, outcomes were promising for the care of the painful or problematic knee and hip joint arthroplasty and the test should be considered as part of the diagnostic toolbox for PJIs.
