Diagnosis of melanoma by imaging mass spectrometry: Development and validation of a melanoma prediction model
Journal of Cutaneous Pathology Jun 25, 2021
Al-Rohil RN, Moore JL, Patterson NH, et al. - This study sought to report the development and validation of a melanoma prediction model from spatially resolved multivariate protein expression profiles generated by Imaging Mass Spectrometry (IMS). For the analysis, 333 samples were blindly evaluated by three board-certified dermatopathologists. Researchers enrolled samples with triply concordant diagnoses, classified into a training set (n = 241) and a test set (n = 92). This research gives evidence that IMS-based proteomics results are highly concordant to diagnostic results obtained by careful histopathologic assessment from a panel of expert dermatopathologists.
