Diagnosis and treatment of oropharyngeal dysphagia after total laryngectomy with or without pharyngoesophageal reconstruction: A systematic review
Head & Neck Dec 04, 2018
Terlingen LT, et al. - Performing this systematic review, qualitatively summarization of the current literature on diagnosis and treatment of oropharyngeal dysphagia (OD) after total laryngectomy (TLE) was conducted. Two independent reviewers carried out the literature search. Outcomes revealed a common occurrence of OD after TLE. The cause is noted to be multifactorial and it results in oral intake adaptation and impaired health-related quality-of-life. Heterogeneous outcomes and serious methodological limitations of the studies prevented pooling data to identify trends that would assist in designing best clinical practice protocols for OD following TLE.
