Diabetic retinopathy, visual impairment and the risk of six-year death: A cohort study of a rural population in China
Ophthalmic Research Nov 02, 2020
Cao K, Wang B, Friedman DS, et al. - In this population-based cohort study, researchers sought to explore the correlation between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and the risk of six-year death, as well as the relationship between visual impairment (VI) and the risk of six-year death, in a rural Chinese population of age ≥ 30 years. In 2006-2007, 6,830 individuals aged ≥ 30 years were selected from 13 villages in northern China through clustered randomization. A six-year follow-up was further conducted in 2012-2013. The inclusion and exclusion criteria included 5,570 individuals in this report. Four hundred ten (7.36%) people died by follow-up. In a rural Chinese population aged ≥ 30 years, DR raised the risk of six-year mortality, while VI did not.
