Diabetic nephropathy and quality of life among youths with long-duration type 1 diabetes: A population-based cross-sectional study
Pediatric Diabetes Mar 01, 2019
Tönnies T, et al. - In this population-based cross-sectional study, researchers examined whether diabetic nephropathy (DN) in youths with long-duration type 1 diabetes is correlated with lower quality of life (QOL) and whether these connections differ with the duration of diabetes. In total, between 2009 and 2016, 1,462 youths (aged 11 to 17 years) with diabetes onset from 0 to 4 years of age who had diabetes for at least 10 years completed QOL questionnaires. Three scales of DISABKIDS instruments were used to assess chronic generic and diabetes-specific QOL (diabetes impact and treatment scale). In youths with type 1 diabetes, long-term microvascular complications can affect chronic generic QOL. In patients with and without DN, differences in QOL appear to increase with diabetes duration.
