Ko PY, et al. - This study was performed in an Asian population to determine the impact of diabetes mellitus (DM) on all-cause mortality among patients with newly-diagnosed tuberculosis (TB) and, risk factors for mortality in these patients. In Taiwan, high one-year all-cause mortality was reported among TB patients after TB diagnosis and it tended to increase in the past decade. Old age, male gender, certain kinds of aforementioned factors and diabetes were identified as factors predisposing to death in newly-diagnosed TB patients.
