Diabetes as a risk factor for poor early outcomes in patients hospitalized with COVID-19
Diabetes Care Oct 07, 2020
Seiglie J, Platt J, Cromer SJ, et al. - A cohort comprising patients hospitalized with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was analyzed herein to determine whether diabetes confers risk for poor early outcomes, following adjustment for obesity. Data were obtained from the Massachusetts General Hospital COVID-19 Data Registry. A correlation of diabetes with greater odds of ICU admission, mechanical ventilation, and death at 14 days, was revealed in multivariable logistic regression models. Overall, it was evident that diabetes was related to poor early outcomes, following adjustment for obesity, in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. For persons with diabetes at risk for COVID-19, patient-centered care decision making can be informed by these data.
