Diabetes and the risk of long-term post COVID symptoms

Diabetes Oct 01, 2021

Fernández-de-las-Peñas C, Guijarro C, Torres-Macho J, et al. - In patients who recovered from SARS-CoV-2 infection, diabetes did not appear a risk factor for the presence of long-term post-COVID symptoms.

  • A case-control study comprising patients with a previous diagnosis of diabetes as cases and age- and gender-matched patients without presenting diabetes as controls.

  • Assessment was conducted at 7.2 months after hospital discharge among 145 patients with diabetes and 144 non-diabetic controls who had recovered from COVID-19.

  • The groups were similar in the number of post-COVID symptoms.

  • Fatigue, dyspnea on exertion, and pain were the most prevalent post-COVID symptoms.

  • Post-COVID symptoms did not differ between the groups.
