Injury | Nov 21, 2017
Gortler H, et al. - Researchers performed this review to ascertain the rates of adverse healing outcomes following surgical fixation of lower extremity fractures in diabetic patients and matched controls. Findings revealed substantial alteration in bone metabolism and soft tissue healing among diabetic patients, that poses a risk of adverse fracture healing and other complications. They gained evidence suggesting significantly increased risks of infection, malunion, nonunion and re-operation across a wide variety of surgically treated lower extremity fractures with the presence of diabetes.
