Diabetes and glucose dysregulation and transition to delirium in ICU patients
Critical Care Medicine Aug 23, 2018
van Keulen K, et al. - Experts gauged if diabetes and glucose dysregulation (hyperglycemia and/or hypoglycemia) were correlated to ICU delirium. Findings did not suggest an association of diabetes mellitus with the development of ICU delirium. They noted only a nonsignificant odds ratio for ICU delirium for hypoglycemia. Findings suggested the association of Hyperglycemia and the occurrence of hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia on the same day with ICU delirium but only in patients without diabetes. In nondiabetic ICU patients, the institution of measures to prevent glucose dysregulation was supported. It contributed to the understanding of the determinants of delirium.
