Dexmedetomidine combined with sufentanil and dezocine-based patient-controlled intravenous analgesia increases female patients’ global satisfaction degree after thoracoscopic surgery

Journal of Cardiothoracic Surgery Apr 27, 2021

Li Q, Yao H, Xu M, et al. - Researchers conducted this randomised, placebo-controlled, double-blind study to ascertain if the addition of dexmedetomidine to sufentanil and dezocine-based PCA drug mixtures would improve female patient satisfaction, as well as to evaluate the analgesic potency and undesirable outcomes of dexmedetomidine 48 h after thoracoscopic surgery. From February 24, 2020, to April 2, 2020, 152 female patients aged 30 to 60 years old, who were American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) class I-II and who were scheduled for three-trocar video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery were enrolled. After thoracoscopic surgery, dexmedetomidine in combination with sufentanil and dezocine improved female patients' overall satisfaction. This result may be attributed to improved postoperative analgesia as well as a decrease in postoperative nausea and vomiting; however, the combined treatment did not increase drug-related adverse effects in female patients.
